Gold is currently $360 per oz. Packed with her personal blueprint for a readers’ success inside 95 color-illustrated pages, Megan includes 6 pages of gold applications’ lists, a small baggie of teaching samples to look for plus a portable gold tester. or http://members.aol.com/origppress/platinum.htm

Platinum Recycling Made Easy platinum metals’ kit takes the reader to another, higher level: the world of above ground, discarded, platinum group metals.  Platinum or PGMs are used in many items besides catalytic converters. Megan Rose once again proves platinum scrapping can also be done by the interested treasure hunter for the astounding low cost of about $38 per platinum ounce.  Platinum currently sells for $700/oz. Megan teaches simple test steps in this kit which contains a portable test stand and starter test powders, plus provides 7 pages of lists and a small sample baggie of white metals on which to practice testing skills.  Details are provided for how to scale up from testing mode to big time, hard metal  results if the reader wants to pursue platinum scrapping either as a second income or just as a hobby.

A classically trained choral conductor and arranger, Megan Rose Morgan was first attracted to gold through collecting coins. Now, after teaching herself precious metal recycling--without knowing a lick of chemistry--over the past 13 years, Megan Rose brings a wealth of research and practical experience to her readers' discovery and recovery of gold, silver, and platinum group metals, both as a source of extra income or just for treasure hunting hobbyist’s enjoyment.

The sources of this cheap gold can be plated onto things or alloyed, solid gold, through and through. The results are absolutely thrilling hard buttons of solid gold, good for saving or selling. Megan also teaches how to sell the gold you find, safely and easily. Join in on the fun by clicking on either of the photos above!! Our phone number is 541-877-2437.

Here's the Scoop

With Midwestern temperatures topping the 100-degree mark nearly every day, it's hard to find a spot cool enough to treasure hunt.

There are still a couple of good areas to look for treasure during sweltering temperatures.

Caves make a perfect hunting ground in extreme temperatures. I recently visited a  cave and the temperature inside was a lovely 68 degrees. It was also a perfect setting to search for arrowheads, plentiful here in Indian country.

The second best place to hunt right now is near water. A local spring fed swimming hole provides the venue to coin shoot as well as take a quick dip when that mid-afternoon sun beats down unmercifully.

In any case, if it's as hot in your area as it is in Oklahoma, drink plenty of fluids to avoid sunstroke.

Show Off Your Finds

Pictured above is one of the first artifacts recently recovered from Sir Francis Drake's discarded 45-ton treasure, found by the Krajewski family. Detailed stories are featured in the September issue of Lost Treasure. Photo courtesy of Ed Krajewski.

Hi,   Don't know if this is of any interest to you, but you publish some odd finds. This is one of the oddest finds I have had since I've been metal detecting.   I was detecting on a beach in South Jersey when I came up with a most unusual find. Gold teeth, not just any gold teeth but a bridge with six teeth and a spacer. Each tooth contained 6 small diamonds and the spacer contained 3 diamonds.   I was using a DFX. The teeth were about 6 inches in the sand.   Regards, Joe D'Agostino New Jersey

Letters to the Editor

Re: Carvings on Rocks

Check out Elmoro National Monument, New Mexico. Hwy 53 south out of Grants, New Mexico. There you will find a sandstone bluff with many of the Spanish explores carved their names. The style comparison should be a clue.

Another note: The lava National Park in Grants New Mexico, holds many secrets, as do the many surrounding bluffs. There are several stories of Guss Rainie, hiding gold and silver and bodies in and around the lava flows. Guss' ranch is down 117 east of Grants along the east side of the lava flow. Check the Grants Becon paper for articles on Guss for clues to his past. He was a bounty hunter for the government.

I hope this tweeks your interest.

Billy Parson found many items in the area. He is from the Grants area, and he or his family could provide clues. You also have old Fort Wingate, south of Grants on Hwy 53,

I have seen many items from that fort. All the buildings have been torn down but it could be a great site to explore. I do not know who owns it now, but the effort will pay off.   Orville Moore

Just wanted to say I like your site, lots of useful information.
I really like all the Field test reports,  real info in real situations.
I am a beginner at metal detecting and I get out every chance I get, I took our little
Bounty Hunter Tracker IV to Huntsville, Alabama.  Found 4 silver coins in my Aunt's backyard!  Two half dollars and two quarters, it was great!  My kids had lots of fun too!
Would love to have a better detector. I keep trying to win one of your sweepstakes
or perhaps I'll find enough with the the Bounty Hunter to afford something better.
Anyhow keep up the good work!

A Little Help From Our Friends

Hi all experienced treasure hunters! I am a beginner in this field, and I do not know how to start. I would like to purchase a metal detector and learn how to effectively use it. Can somebody give me valuable advises, like which detector is the reasonable best one, what is the maximum depth I can search through, what books to read, etc. Cernosek@water.ca.gov

A number of you have asked what to write to the Arkansas State Parks on the dates of Aug. 11th & 18th to hopefully convince them to reconsider their decision on metal detecting within their state parks. This is a great idea and has worked beautifully in the past with the Washington State Parks.

If you remember, I asked you 5 or 6 years ago to support Washington State just as I'm asking you now to support Arkansas. In three days over 5,000 letters, faxes (and now we can use email), were sent to Washington State Recreational Committee from just Texas and the surrounding states alone. Well it worked, and the Committee decided to reconsider their first decision if that many folks from Texas alone were upset about their State Parks being closed to our hobby.

I ask you to please write one or both dates stated above, Please pass this on to all that is on your email list today and please take time out just to send a short direct-to-the-point email to MR. Butt's, Director of Arkansas State Parks

Greg. butts@mail.state.ar.us

It is always better to do this in your own words and not from a common letter. Remember, Arkansas like any state is very interested in the tourist dollars, so folks let's all let Mr. Butt's have it on these dates. Please write a respectful email or letter when you write.

Only by all of us working together can we accomplish this success. I ask you again, if you love this hobby and wish to see it's future include your children or grandchildren in the same rights as you enjoy today, then please take the time to write.

Thank you all my friends, it can not succeed without your help. Sincerely, Keith Wills kwills@worldnet.att.net
