After eight very successful years, Air Line owner, Joe Sink said, "It's time to go to the next level before we find ourselves spread too thin." Sink developed pulleyless hookah compressors in 1998, causing a minor revolution that has greatly impacted the popularity of surface-supplied-air equipment for divers.
The result, for the Florida based firm, has been some very impressive growth.
Several months ago, Sink met John Gory who expressed an interest in working together. Sink's attention was piqued by John's impressive resume. In addition to his strong business management skills, John designed and managed a world-renowned dolphin research program on cognitive behavior, while under contract to Walt Disney World. Along the same lines, he supervised dolphin research at the University of Hawaii marine mammal lab. With tongue in cheek John adds, "Sometimes it's easier to work with dolphins----they don't ask for time off."
Ironically, Sink, who squeaked by high school with a C average, is now partnered with Gory, who received his Bachelor's in Psychology at the U. of Pittsburgh , followed by a Master's at the U. of Hawaii and has completed all but the final dissertation toward his PHD, AND, with a 4.0 GPA.
Sink adds, "Where I tend to be the dreamer and imaginer, John's scientific mind can cut through to the core of the project with the realities. Our management team has now taken on a more balanced perspective. As long as I don't have to call him, Doctor."
Among John's duties will be product development and sharing the day-to-day operation. In closing, Sink muses, "Maybe now I can do something really exotic like---diving. That is if the moths haven't eaten my Johnny Weissmuller swim trunks.".
