The last time I covered Arkansas in this column, I solicited help from Lost Treasure readers for a man named Budd who was searching for a lost cave of Spanish silver in Arkansas. Over 100 Lost Treasure readers responded to Budd's request for help, and from that mass of letters he chose an experienced spelunker from a nearby county as a partner. That partnership didn't work out, but it turns out the assistance of a spelunker wasn't really necessary anyhow.
Treasure marks carved in rock, artifact and geological evidence, and testimony of the old timers in Budd's neighborhood all seemed to indicate that the "cave with the dead folk" that Budd's now-deceased friend had explored was, in reality, an old silver mine that had been partially filled in. One of the two entrances to this mine has been definitely identified, but unfortunately it has been totally filled in with gravel and rocks at this point. The landowner has granted permission to explore but will not allow heavy equipment on his property to excavate. The search for the other entrance goes on.
