Old Spanish coins and a large number of human bones have been found in a long, narrow canyon near Vicci in Ellis County. These tend to confirm stories of a Spanish treasure caravan massacred by Indians in the canyon. However, the remains of the Spaniards' burros (supposedly laden with raw gold) have not yet been located.
